Resources for Scientific Investigators

The REP is an infrastructure that links together nearly all of the medical records of the residents of Olmsted County, MN for approved medical research. This infrastructure makes it possible to conduct population-based descriptive, case-control, historical and prospective cohort, and cross-sectional research studies of most diseases and medical conditions. However, the REP is not a traditional database that can be electronically queried to ask specific research questions. Instead, the REP provides the means for collecting data to answer important research questions.

The REP has been used by hundreds of investigators for developing epidemiologic studies on a wide range of medical conditions. Since 1966, this resource has supported projects resulting in over 2,000 cumulative publications. As such, the REP continues to welcome research ideas and proposals from investigators from around the world.
